Welcome to the Southern USA
Hi guys! My first full length vampire novel is coming out in a few days, and I thought I would take this time to introduce the world to you. If you've read my novella One Night, One Bite, then you've had a small preview of the world, but I thought a small introduction would be in order before you dive in. I can't wait for you to read Levi and Amaya's story!
Introduction
In 1833, in the night and early
morning of November 12th and 13th, the Leonid meteor shower blazed across the
sky of what was the United States of America. 50,000 to 150,000 meteors fell
each hour. Seen from as far north as New York, all the way down south, the
meteors struck fear into the hearts of many. No one could ascertain the origin
of the phenomenon, nor could science explain the sheer number of ‘falling
stars’.
Only a small group of shamans,
gathered and bound on the last slave ship headed to the eastern coast of the
United States, understood what happened. See, they had called on the
Celestials, imploring them for intervention.
Their call was answered.
Nestled in between those meteors
showering down on the Earth were powerful Akachi stones. These stones contained
chaos magic, derived from the very power source that controlled the cosmos. The
Akachi stones would land only in the South, giving rise and power to a people
oppressed under the boot of the cruel capitalist system of slavery.
By the time dawn streaked across
the sky of a new day, a unique power was granted to the enslaved. Supernatural
magic imbued them, granting their fervent wish for freedom.
Four different powers emerged,
each unique in its abilities. The Chawi were witches and warlocks, capable of
wielding natural magic, direct descendants of the Shaman who’d called upon the
Celestials. The Mujaji, storm gods, were able to wield the power of the four elements. The Mages,
magicians of extensive power, able to control the very chaos magic granted from
the Akachi stones. And lastly, the Bayi, powerful vampires who gained their power from the blood they ingested.
An uprising resulted from this
newfound power, as civil war broke out across a country still in its infancy.
Armed with power none had seen before, the supernaturals won the war. The
resulting shaky truce called for the country to be split into two. The Northern
USA, where humans fled, and the Southern USA, now filled with former humans,
who held supernatural power.
To control and prevent misuse of
these new powers, the Collective was born. One elder member of each of the
newly formed powers, gaining a seat on the council and speaking for their
respective group. The Archives were built to store and hide the Akachi stones
that had fallen from the sky. Protecting the source of the South’s power, their
number one priority.
Despite the treaty, the North
tried one last ditch effort to take over the South, wanting the power for their
own. They recruited vampires from Europe, hoping to undermine the fledgling
country. The Buru vampires descended on the South, and for years, small
skirmishes disrupted the newly formed country. Magical borders were erected
around the newly formed South, controlled and monitored by the mages. Not even
erecting those barriers was able to prevent the descent of the creatures.
From the chaos rose a Bayi vampire determined to rid his city of the evil that was the Buru. Never had he imagined he would carry the entirety of the South on his back.
